Mendota Streets Department

Nick Stremlau, Director
(815) 539-7459

The Streets Department has three full-time staff and utilizes part-time help

for summer mowing and park maintenance.

It costs approximately $30,000 to resurface a city block and curbing. Each year

the city allocates about $350,000 for street repair.  So each year streets are

reviewed to determine which ones need the most repairs.

Highway 34 and IL 251 maintenance must be completed by the state. The City of Mendota puts in requests as needed. The City of Mendota is scheduled to have the bridge redone and sidewalks placed on Hwy 34 by the Hi-Rises in the year 2025.

The Streets Department is also responsible for many of the seasonal services.
See below for the full list:

Potholes

If you encounter a pothole on a city street that needs to be filled, please contact the City Clerk's Office (815-539-7459) to report the street name and block number.

Snow plowing

During winter weather, the City of Mendota staff uses a priority plowing system that ensures main traffic routes are addressed first, followed by residential streets, cul-de-sacs, alleys, and dead ends.

During snow emergencies, residents are asked to not park on the streets and Downtown Public Parking Lots.
